ARCHAEOLOGICAL
DIG IN NYACK
Nyack's American Legion Post 310 will explore
the feasibility of an archeological survey at their Hudson Riverfront
home. The Post seeks input from anyone with expertise in the
field.
The
land is unique in that it may have been undisturbed for a very
long time, making it a prime subject for potential Native American
& Revolutionary War artifacts. In addition, two families,
(Hesdra and Towt), noted for their participation in the mid-nineteenth
century Underground Railroad movement, owned property, abutting
Nyack Brook. The brook may have been used as a marker for slaves
escaping to the North during the 1800s.
The Legion welcomes help, ideas and suggestions in making this
project a reality. It is hoped it may coincide with the 400th
Hudson-Champlain Quadricentennial in 2009.
