The Boy Who Invented TV—a true story by Kathleen Krull Philo Farnsworth.
He’s a kid who invents a kid’s favorite thing—TV! Philo was born in 1906 when electricity was rare out in the country on the potato fields of Utah and where there were no movies or radios. eere was music if you played the violin or guitar but the worst thing of all there was no TV! When he was eleven his family moved to the Snake River Valley in Idaho, the first time Philo lived in a house with electricity. When he entered his new house there was an interesting surprise inside, a large stack of science magazines. He made his new bedroom in the attic where he installed a lamp right above his bed so he could read all night. He became fascinated with inventing and learned scientific concepts. In his reading, he stumbled on an article about something called “television.” It was kind of like a radio but instead of sending sounds, it sent pictures. Scientists were racing to find a way to invent this machine. Philo was only 14 when, as he plowed a potato field, the parallel lines in the earth sparked anparallel lines of light, capturing and transmitting them as electrons, then reassembling them for the person watching? If it could be done fast enough viewer’s eyes could be tricked into seeing complete pictures instead of just lines. Philo had figured out how to invent one of America’s most popular products before the experienced scientists had. At 14, Philo saw a way to create television, which became one of the world’s most widely used inventions. I think this story is interesting.eis author seems to know what goes on inside a kid’s head and knows how to speak to us.ee photos on the inside are eye-catching. It’s not every day you get to see interesting pictures of early 20th Century television. So if your parents want you to start reading something non-fiction or you need to read a non-fiction book for school, I recommend[e BoyWho Invented TV.
